About
RevoBloc — Turning Ocean and Land Plastic Waste into Africa's Next Building Material
RevoBloc is a South African circular economy company that has developed a patented (A2026/00343), world-first solar-powered extrusion manufacturing system converting plastic waste including ocean-retrieved, landfill and non-recyclable plastics into high-performance, interlocking construction blocks.
The Problem
Africa generates 19 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, 90% of it mismanaged, with 17 million tonnes entering oceans and waterways every year. At the same time, the continent faces a housing deficit of over 160 million units, driven by the high cost, slow build times and environmental footprint of cement-based construction. Conventional recycling struggles to process contaminated, mixed or ocean-degraded plastics, leaving the most harmful waste streams unaddressed.
The RevoBloc Solution
Our patented interlocking block system requires no cement, no mortar, no water and no grid power to manufacture or build. Blocks are twice as strong as conventional brick and cinder block, enable 50% faster construction, cost 15-30% less, and last 100+ years. The entire manufacturing process runs on solar-powered extrusion and can process plastic waste too degraded or contaminated for traditional recycling streams including material recovered from oceans, rivers and coastlines.
Blue Economy Alignment
RevoBloc directly supports ocean health by creating a genuine, scalable end-market for ocean and coastal plastic waste. Every block manufactured diverts 6.35 kg of plastic from landfill or waterways and saves 32 kg of CO₂ compared to traditional concrete. Our mobile Revo Circular Containers can be deployed in coastal municipalities and fishing communities to collect and bale plastic waste directly at the source, closing the loop between ocean plastic recovery and permanent infrastructure.
Interest & Traction
SABS & Agrement certification in process. Interest across South Africa ( City of Cape Town ), Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, UAE/GCC, Seychelles. Currently raising R20 million to establish our first full-scale commercial manufacturing facility.
Team
Founded by Righardt Visser (Founder & CEO), with Liam Beckett (Business Development Director) and Anton Scheepers (Marketing Director), Brian Seymour (Sustainable Innovation & Impact Director) in Cape Town, South Africa with plans to move hea-office to Gaborone, Botswana.
Impact
Aligned with all 17 UN SDGs. Each facility is projected to create direct & indirect jobs, formalising informal waste pickers into paid employment while building climate-resilient, off-grid infrastructure across Africa.
